Freeroll is usually a multi-table tournament played with more than 10 players. In these poker tournaments there is cost nothing to play but still have a price pool. The term freeroll is also used to describe a tournament with no entry fee but the use of the terms 'free' and 'no entry fee' can be misleading due to the fact that some freerolls require a payment at some point to gain entry to the tournament. Freeroll poker means that there are no buy-in or entry fees to play in the tournament.

Freerolls are a promotion method for online poker rooms and while some poker rooms hosts many small Freerolls others host few with big prices. Freeroll tournaments are not exclusive to poker. Casinos frequently offer them to frequent and/or high-value players in games such as craps, blackjack, video poker and slot machines.
